More and more people are coming out as gay or bisexual nowadays, with celebrities such as Duncan James and Ricky Martin crawling out of the closet in the past year or so. And it has come as no real surprise, to those with an eye for these things, that new British sensation, Jessie J, has followed suit.

“I can do it like a brother, do it like a dude,” the 2011 BRIT Award winner sings in her debut single, ‘Do It Like a Dude’. We won’t ask what exactly she means by this, but maybe now her reasons for being so hesitant about releasing it due to its testosterone charged lyrics are justified.

Jessie J, whose real name is Jessica Cornish, confirmed the rumours to radio show ‘In Demand’, which runs on all Bauer radio stations (Smash Hits, Magic, Kiss), in an interview to be broadcast on March 3rd.

However, with Jessie J being such a popular and respected artist amongst the younger generation, her coming out is arguably helping those struggling with coming to terms with their sexuality.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, believes that she is helping those still in denial, stating, “she’s a role model. Young people look up to her and think she’s cool.”

However, this view isn’t shared by all, with one 19 year old student in Sheffield stating that celebrities coming out haven’t helped them to come out, and 22 year old bisexual, Sarah, saying,“everybody’s bi these days! If she’s not actually, it makes the whole thing a bit of a joke.”

Jessie J is currently number two in the UK charts with the B.o.B collaboration ‘Price Tag’, after being knocked from the top spot two weeks ago by Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’.
